What a weekend!

This past Saturday was Justin's 24th birthday! It was so weird not spending a birthday running around like crazy trying spend a little time celebrating with every family member and friend. On a side note, I am so thankful that I did not grow up in a house with divorced parents (especially multiple divorces and remarriages). I have seen the strain and expectations that are put on kids in these situations and how hard it can be to even celebrate your own birthday.

I was slightly worried that it wouldn't really feel like a birthday celebration with just the two of us, but I was raised by the Cork/Mink women and one thing they taught us is how to celebrate. I was, however, on a birthday budget, so I had to prioritize gifts, food, and entertainment.

He had one of the maple bacon cupcakes I made him for breakfast (gross!), got a workout in, watched some football, and opened presents.

The weather was beautiful so I took him for a drive to a farm. On the way I stopped and bought him a couple new CDs (those still exist?!) for our ride and he was very considerate to choose to save the heavy metal one for later listening. :) At the farm we completed a giant corn maze, a first for both of us! We got to pet some farm animals (calves, pigs, chickens, etc), race rubber ducks, play in a corn pit, and launch corn out of some machine similar to a large potato gun. The entertainment options for a Saturday afternoon in Wisconsin are quite different than those in Tennessee!

Justin's two requests for his birthday were homemade po' boy sandwiches and chocolate pecan pie, so we enjoyed these while we watched the Hunger Games, a present from his mom. Justin told me he had a great birthday and that he is already planning for mine!
